Flu and people aged 65 and over

If you’re aged 65 or over you are eligible for a free seasonal flu vaccination. This is because people in this age group are more likely to become seriously ill and have complications likepneumonia.

The flu vaccine will help protect you during the autumn and winter months when you are likely to be vulnerable to flu.

What to do next

If you are aged 65 or over, ask your GP, practice nurse or pharmacist about getting your free annual flu vaccine.

If you are a carer for someone who is 65 or over, or for someone who has a long-term health condition, then you should ask your GP, practice nurse or pharmacist about the flu vaccination as you may need to be vaccinated as well.
