Always wanted to learn to make your own clothes?

Or do you just need a refresher?

This course is for you! Over four 2-hour sessions, our tutor will provide expert guidance as you create a garment of your choice!

No need to fear tricky construction such as inserting invisible zips or fathoming sleeve plackets!
Bring along your pattern and fabric and we’ll help you take it from there.

The course takes place at our HQ in Chorlton, South Manchester on the following dates:
Weds 10th May, 7:30 – 9:30pm
Weds 17th May, 7:30 – 9:30pm
Weds 24th May, 7:30 – 9:30pm

This is a mixed-ability class, so you’ll learn at your own pace. What you can complete in four weeks will depend on the complexity of your garment and how fast you work! As an example, you can expect to complete a straightforward shift dress to a good standard in this time. Fast stitchers are welcome to work on more than one project during the course.

If you don’t want to sign up for the whole four-week course, you can book sessions individually, but please be aware that you will need a minimum of two sessions to create a garment.

Skills: Using a pattern, understanding pattern instructions, constructing a garment, making adjustments for fit.

Level: Beginner, Intermediate.
To join this course you need to be familiar with a sewing machine and have completed a few machine-sewn projects. Not there yet? Pass Your Sewing Machine Driving Test, or complete our three-week Learn to Sew Course (view upcoming dates).

Bring: Bring your pattern and the fabric you’d like to use, plus any interfacing, zips or buttons that are required. The course cost does not include any materials other than thread. All equipment will be provided, including sewing machines, overlockers, irons etc.

Stories-Of-Sacrifice-PosterP1.1

A recent ICM survey revealed that only 2% of the British public were aware of the extent of contribution of Muslims to World War One (WW1). Given the current political and social climate around the UK and Europe, and with the centenary memorials well under way and set to continue for the next few years, the British Muslim Heritage Centre (BMHC) has been had at work researching and documenting Muslim stories from WW1.
