Nip and Tipple: Gaslight Open Mic Night Thursday, February 22 at 7:30 PM – 11 PM
Hello Gaslight family,
In the run up to Valentines we thought it might be nice to run a Valentines Gaslight…. Love songs, break up songs, Valentines and anti-valentines songs!Line up and timings will be posted at 6pm on Friday 2nd February – first come first serve! Two long songs, or three short songs is the general rule and there are two reserved slots for newbies.As always, Gaslight remains an open mic night, so please do feel free to play any songs you like.

There is a guitar available on the night if needed.

Jazz Information

Live Jazz is a regular event on ‘What’s Happening’ at The Hillary Step.

Every Sunday and and Wednesday from 9pm we will be hosting a jazz gig featuring musicians largely from the NW, but also those on a national tour that our booking guru Bob Jones brings to Whalley Range.

Sunday 25th February Lucy Lockwood quartet, swinging songster with hot combo

Wednesday 28th February Alex Douglas’ Hymnos – featuring some gospel music influences with both originals and arrangements.

Sunday 4th March Tokyo Sauce, funky originals four piece.

QUEER CONTACT FESTIVAL 2018

This weekend we kick off the 10th anniversary of Queer Contact Festival with our biggest festival yet – and with several performances already sold out it’s sure to be a busy few weeks!

As we refurbish our remarkable building, Queer Contact Festival spreads its wings across Greater Manchester to start Contact In The City with four weeks of live performances and three months of exhibition days, celebrating LGBT+ arts and culture.

This year’s festival features diverse life experiences from the UK, Europe, Hong Kong, Sierra Leone, Sri Lanka, Zimbabwe and more as part of a packed programme of theatre, dance, music, cabaret, film, clubbing, spoken word and visual art examining gender, sexuality, health, religion, and politics.

Events take place at venues including Oldham Coliseum, Texture, The Palace Theatre, Waterside, Manchester Academy, 53Two, Manchester Central Library, CRUZ 101, and People’s History Museum.

A recent ICM survey revealed that only 2% of the British public were aware of the extent of contribution of Muslims to World War One (WW1). Given the current political and social climate around the UK and Europe, and with the centenary memorials well under way and set to continue for the next few years, the British Muslim Heritage Centre (BMHC) has been had at work researching and documenting Muslim stories from WW1.
